Welcome to the Goldfields Navigation Service Eric Plet
Eric describes his background like a box of chocolate.
His passion for community work started as a Youth Worker in his early twenties and graduated from the Royal Melbourne Institute of
Technology. His previous work experience includes working across all three spheres of government and across four states. He
initially came to the Goldfields in 2007 to work for the City of Kalgoorlie Boulder as the Manager responsible for Community Services which
included services offered by EGCC. He later on worked for the WA Disability Services Commission, the WA Department of Communities and the WA Department of Education. Some of his NGO work exposure includes health care settings such as the Port Adelaide Community Health
Service, the Illoura Early Childhood Intervention Service and the now Banyule Community Health service. Eric is looking forward to
continuing his passion in working and advocating for the most vulnerable people in our community.
The Goldfields Navigation Service is thrilled to have Eric on the team. He can be contacted on 90 218266 or via email sc1@gwhcc.org.au.
Carer Friendly Organisation
In September the GWHCC completed Level 1 Accreditation for Carers WA Activate - This is for organisations who are beginning to develop carer friendly workplace policies and practices. We are the first regional organisation to achieve this and we were incredibly proud to
achieve this milestone. The Carers + Employers program defines best practice standards for supporting staff with caring
responsibilities. This may be any employee within your organisation who provides informal support or care to a family member or friend.
CEO of Carers WA Richard Newman came to Kalgoorlie to present the award to President, Kylie McLerie, Support & Carer Coordinator Christine Kupe and CEO Gloria Moyle.
Recognition of Health Justice partnership
Our CEO Gloria Moyle attended the 2024 IPAA WA Achievement Awards last week as our Health - Justice partnership that is funded by
Department of Health was nominated in the "best practice in Health & Well Being. "This partnership is innovative in its
approach—embedding specialist legal services within women’s health centre’s where women already feel safe and supported. This model breaks
down silos between health and legal services, providing an integrated, trauma-informed solution that addresses not just one, but multiple
needs at once. This is the kind of early intervention that can change lives, and it’s both cost-effective and efficient in its ability to
prevent long-term harm" Although we didn't take out the award we are thrilled to be supporting about Goldfield’s women, children, and
families who are at a crossroads, looking for a way forward. I think of the women we serve, the ones whose voices are often unheard, and I
am inspired by the opportunity to make a meaningful difference." Thank you to everyone who has supported this important work, and to those
who will continue to champion women’s health, safety, and access to justice. Together, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of women
and families, not just today, but for generations to come."
"For me, this initiative is not just about policy or systems—it’s about Goldfield’s women, children, and families who are at a
crossroads, looking for a way forward. I think of the women we serve, the ones whose voices are often unheard, and I am inspired by the
opportunity to make a meaningful difference."
"None of this would be possible without the collective effort of all those involved.
Thank you to everyone who has supported this important work, and to those who will continue to champion women’s health, safety,
and access to justice.
Together, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of women and families, not just today, but for generations to
come." Gloria Moyle CEO

basic foundations and skill base began. Moving to Kalgoorlie & working at the hospital opened my eyes to culture & diversity. This
experience and exposure to the grand Goldfields has enriched my understanding and scope of what it is like to live in the Goldfields. After 8 years at the hospital, I took a left turn into complimentary health, studying an Advanced Diploma in Kinesiology and became Yoga teacher.
When I’m not at working you will find me with my Horse Mr DJ, we are currently working together to learn dressage. You will see me

Sexual Assault Support Service
The Goldfield Womens Health Care Centre (GWHCC) now provides Sexual Assault Support Services (SASS) and counselling to people who have been
sexually assaulted or sexually abused at some time in the past (there are no restrictions based on how long ago the assault or abuse took
place).
SASS counsellors are experienced in providing counselling to deal with the aftermath of sexual assault and sexual abuse.
In counselling, clients will meet face to face with a counsellor after they have first made contact with SASS by phone 08 90218266 or
mob 0499167639 or interagency referral.
The counsellor will focus on the client’s feelings and emotional reactions and together with the client, explore strategies to help them to
recover from the trauma and to feel in control of their lives. Clients will not be forced to talk about anything they do not want to talk
about.
In counselling, clients can expect to:
Be treated with dignity, respect and understanding
Be believed
Have an opportunity to express feelings and thoughts without being judged
Receive accurate information
Make decisions in their own time
Communicate in their own language, with the help of an interpreter if required
A counselling session is usually 50 minutes to 1 hour in length. As a general guide, SASS can offer up to 10 counselling sessions per
client, and there are no fees.

"I am absolutely stoked to be working at GWHCC as a counsellor as I am completing my psychology registration program. I have always
enjoyed working in the not-for-profit space and providing help and support to those that need it. My passion is working from person-centred
therapy modalities and holistic approaches. I have previously worked in drug and alcohol treatment for adults and young people. My
treatment interests include working with trauma, personality disorders and attachment, as well as supporting and growing our healthy adult.
I was born in Kalgoorlie and lived here until I was about 5 before moving to be closer to family, eventually coming back to my hometown and
absolutely loving it. I love spending time outside and in nature, especially with my dog. I have just returned from a 6-month holiday
travelling around Australia and experiencing all the beauty our home has to offer. I love travelling and experiencing new things, learning
everything I can and sharing with those around me. I aspire to make a positive impact on those around me and think we can all continue to
learn from each other throughout our lives. I can’t wait to see where this job takes me and to be more involved in our community."

The GWHCC is excited to introduce our newest team member Gloria Lockyer!
Gloria has over 30 years’ worth of experience working in rural communities and is going to be providing general counselling and sexual
assault counselling at the centre.
"I couldn’t think of working anywhere else in Kal than with Women. Working with women and empowering them to reach their full potential
is a passion of mine. If our women are safe and well, then our children grow and flourish in our community. I have worked in community
development in all areas for over 30 years in both private and public sectors. I am a narrative therapist at heart and use other
evidence-based therapies such as CBT, DBT, Schema and EMDR in Counselling Practices, I am also in my final semester of Psychology Science.
Born in Port Hedland, I have lived the rural life for the most part, but today call Kalgoorlie home. I am a mother, grandmother
and wife that loves baking bread, painting portraits and growing herbs. I love fishing, bush walks, exploring the reef and sitting in the
sun in nature with a cup of tea.
I am a researcher currently completing a PhD in Health Science, looking at integrated models of care in the field of sexual
assault, I am seeking more knowledge for the benefit of sharing it for better outcomes in our community. I am basically a tree hugger,
loving earth care and sustainable practices in life. I believe Reuse, Recycle and Reduce is a great motto to live by. Taking an integrative
approach to basically everything which values our people and planet, I believe even though is it the people that are important, we all need a
healthy planet to nourish us in our lives. I believe you must “Be the change you want to see”.

Welcome Lily!
Please welcome our future Lawyer, Lily to the GWHCC team! Lily is working part time as a Client Services Officer.
“I’m absolutely over the moon to be helping the Goldfields community as a Client Services Officer at GWHCC. I am currently studying
externally my BA of Laws and I am a graduate of a Diploma of Performing Arts and Classical Cecchetti training.
Born in Kal, I grew up in tightknit mining towns such as Coolgardie, Port Hedland and Kalgoorlie, where I currently live with my family
while I finish home renos on mine and my partner’s new house. In my spare time I love to read novels, experiment with tea, and go camping
and fishing in Espo.
I pride myself on being an intuitive and calming presence, here to offer friendly advice to whoever would like it. I strongly believe in
always seeing the best in people, and love celebrating when people accomplish the goals they set for themselves. I love listening to
people’s life stories, in which life lessons I may learn myself are always embedded. My mantra is ‘practice makes progress, not
perfection’.”

SOME HAPPY DAY
ORANA CINEMA
THURSDAY 16th JUNE 2022
6pm
Some Happy Day is an independent feature film made with, and in, the community where the story is set: St Kilda. The Film encapsulates
themes of change and redemption, raising awareness to the global social issue of homelessness, through the powerful narrative of Tina, a
homeless woman in desperate search of a better life, and Frances, a social worker with troubles of her own.
REVIEWS:
“Profoundly moving. Some Happy Day lays bare the underbelly of Australian lives rarely seen. It is brave and real and will have you in
tears. A triumph of filmmaking. Tender, uplifting and bravely honest.” – Nikki Gemmell, author and journalist
“A sensitive, gritty portrayal of the shadows we all carry and the courage it takes to find our way through.” – Tim Costello AO
“An unflinching and articulate story that works not only as a deeply poignant drama, but as an unapologetic statement against the devastation wrought by Australia’s widening wealth gap … Some Happy Day is a story of connection, perseverance, and community.” – James

Sip and Search
This Wednesday our Sip and Search night will be at Sandalwood Family Centre from 6.30pm, but late arrivals welcome.
Either with a cosy cuppa or chill Chardy, as a group we will search online for stories and details on women’s contributions in local history
to be part of the project.
Sip and Search are a series of social nights open to anyone who would like to be involved and help contribute to the 130 Women project in a
relaxed, informal setting. Just as social as it is research, we’ll be working through our list of women through online resources to
fact-check and learn more of these women’s stories.
As we search, we'll share what we find and chat about the contributions these women have made.
Help the project work through the usual websites and explore wherever some of the rabbit holes lead us. You may have a particular person
you’d like to research or we have plenty you can choose from.

Carers WA and GWHCC partner to provide a local presence for Carer Gateway. The Goldfields Womens Health Care Centre (GWHCC) is thrilled to
be partnering with Carers WA, Carer Gateway’s lead service provider in WA, to support the local delivery of Carer Gateway services in the
Goldfields region. Carer Gateway is a federal government initiative providing a mix of free online, telephone and in-person supports,
services and advice for family carers in Australia. These services have been specifically designed and tested by carers to help reduce
stress and build resilience in the caring role. National Carers Week, 10th-16th October, provides an opportunity to recognise, celebrate and
raise awareness of the 2.65 million unpaid carers in Australia, and thank them for the unwavering care and support they provide to their
loved ones. Carers are an integral part of Australia’s health system and are the foundation of our aged, disability, palliative and
community care systems. GWHCC CEO Gloria Moyle who was a long-time carer of her loved ones, is very pleased to be able to provide a local
contact for Carer Gateway, with the support of Carers WA. She says “Carers in regional WA are already disadvantaged by having limited access
to vital services and are often forced to travel hundreds of kilometres to utilise what our city counterparts often take for granted. This
adds another later to the already overwhelmed carer, who is then expected to navigate a complicated system to get the assistance they
deserve”. The Carers WA Community Engagement team will be joining the GWHCC at this year’s Lorna Mitchell Spring Festival on Sunday 10th
October and are already on their way up the pipeline to promote their services to carers in the Goldfields area. For any further information
please contact Gloria Moyle (CEO – GWHCC) on 0407 711 445 or Brody MacLeod (Partnerships and Engagement Officer – Carers WA) 0479 112 210.

of their own healing journey and I want to be supportive of that. I have worked with people from many different cultural and social backgrounds and believe everyone should have access to professional and quality support. Some skills that have helped in my line of work is

The Goldfields Women’s Health Care Centre offers Infant and Perinatal Counselling with Nicole Wade, Credentialed Mental Health Nurse.
Perinatal mental health refers to the emotional and psychological wellbeing of a parent around the time of conception through to 12 months
after a baby is born (the perinatal period).
The baby blues refers to women feeling teary, sad or irritable in the early days after giving birth (usually 7-10 days). New mothers
experiencing the baby blues is common (up to 80% of mothers) and usually just lasts a couple of days.
However, if you are still feeling down after two weeks, talking to a professional such as Nicole is a good idea.
There are a number of mental health disorders that are unique to the perinatal period in which parents may need to seek professional help.
Mental health disorders that may be experienced during the perinatal period include:
Depression – antenatal and/or postnatal (up to 1 in 7 mothers and around 1 in 10 fathers)
Anxiety disorders – antenatal and/or postnatal (thought to be more common than depression and can occur on its own or co-occur with
depression for either parent)
Postpartum psychosis is a psychiatric emergency– requires immediate medical attention (rare, 1-2 in 1000 mothers)

We haven’t even hit the halfway point of 2020 yet and already most of us have experienced more than a whole years worth of stressors. With
natural disasters and a global pandemic touching each and everyone of us, is it little wonder we are feeling more than a little overwhelmed
right now.
We aren’t born with the innate knowledge of how to process and cope with internal and external pressures, it’s a skill we need to learn and
practice to maintain a calm and steady mindset to conquer all that life throws at us.

Urinary disorders affect many women around the world to varying degrees, many women have mild symptoms that only affect them occasionally,
however urinary disorders can become severe and even impact daily activities and lower self esteem. Many women believe that their symptoms
are normal and just put up with them, however seeking treatment for all symptoms can have a huge impact on quality of life.
